Ford Bronco II Owner Ratings & Reviews

1989 Ford Bronco II - Fun Vehicle.
I loved the ride height of this vehicle, it was just a ton of fun to ride around. Very cheap as well, pretty good gas mileage, about twenty miles to the gallon and had a huge gas tank of 20 gallons. Great four wheel drive as well, super fun to off road. It had a reputation for flipping over but this was incredibly unwarranted, it was not made to drive like a sports car, it was always very stable for me. I once drove up on a snow bank to park when that was the only spot left in the lot, so it was very useful in that way. Could also seat four very comfortably.
Story
Drove it up what felt like a 45 degree incline, was so fun.
Pros
Cheap to work on, you could get under the car without jacking it up to work on it. I loved the ride height, I could see everything. It was also pretty short which made it very easy to park and get around. Because the car was nice and boxy the sound was great. And it shared a lot of parts with the Ford ranger, like headlights, and the mechanical parts, which made the parts a lot cheaper
Cons
They're getting old and harder to find. Shame Ford doesn't bring them back
1990 Ford Bronco II - One problem after another
Given that this is a 25 year old vehicle I expected to have to do a little maintenance here and there. I did not expect to be gambling on whether or not I'd need a tow truck to get home every time I started it and went somewhere. To begin with, it's ugly. But, I'm a disabled vet and very poor so looks are last on my list of importance. Soon after purchasing the alternator and battery both needed replaced. We went ahead and replaced all plugs and wires at that time. Air conditioner was disconnected. After connecting it, it started to die at random times. Sometimes while driving down the road. Once it would die it would need to sit for a couple of hours before it would start again. If just making a quick trip to the store you could not turn it off unless you were expecting to be there fo... (more)
Story
Taking my daughter and a friend up to Mt. Hood during the winter to play in the snow was very fun. Push button four wheel drive and doing cookies in the empty parking lot in the snow was a blast!!
Pros
All is not terrible though. Being a disabled vet, I've been unable to work. Which at times has left me homeless. I know from experience that sleeping in that old broken in bronco is very comfortable. Seats fold down and even with my few possessions there is room for me in there. It's 4 wheel drive so it's great in the pacific northwest during the winter. And when it's cold out, it gets me to the VA and back with no problems..... Usually.
Cons
Very unreliable in all but the shortest trips. Hot days you have to do any short trips early in the morning when its cool. One of the ugliest vehicles ever made.
1994 Ford Bronco II - Great Hard Running SUV
I bought this vehicle used to handle all terrain in Florida from sand and sea at the beach to swamp water to hurricanes and floods. It did a great job in all types of conditions. The vehicle got decent gas mileage and was reasonable in repair costs. I was once able to pull someone out with a tow line I had attached to the vehicle which made me quite proud. It was an easy vehicle to maintain and work on. One item of dislike was the weak alternator that had numerous issues over the years. I had to have it replaced at least twice due to failures. This vehicle did well at pulling trailers and was able to handle them well. It was also a very comfortable vehicle to ride in. It was quiet and drove smoothly. It handles quite well at higher speeds on the interstate as well. I especially liked t... (more)
Story
As I said before, one night I was able to attach a tow row and pull someone out of a large mud puddle with this vehicle in 4 wd which made me quite proud to own it.
Pros
Power, 4 wheel drive on the fly, handling
Cons
Issues with alternator were the only significant problem I ever had
